Editorial policy

Our standards for accuracy, sourcing, and transparency.

This document describes the editorial standards and practices of Maccafan News. We publish it openly so readers can hold us accountable.

Mission

Maccafan News exists to inform readers about the work and ongoing career of Paul McCartney with accuracy, depth, and historical context. Our coverage spans album retrospectives, recording history, current news, and cultural analysis.

Editorial independence

Maccafan News is independently owned and operated. We have no commercial relationship with Paul McCartney, MPL Communications, the Beatles' corporate entities, or any record label. Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers and any other commercial considerations.

Accuracy and verification

We aim for factual accuracy in everything we publish. Our practices:

  • Primary sourcing. We rely on primary sources whenever possible: official statements, verified interviews, liner notes, recording session documentation, and reputable music journalism outlets.
  • Attribution. All quoted material is attributed. Paraphrased information identifies its source.
  • Verification. Significant factual claims are verified against at least one corroborating source before publication.
  • Linking. When citing online sources, we link directly to the source page so readers can verify the claim themselves.

Sourcing standards

Our hierarchy of trusted sources:

  1. Direct statements from Paul McCartney, his collaborators, and authorized representatives (interviews, press releases, official social media).
  2. MPL Communications, official record label, and management announcements.
  3. Established music journalism: Rolling Stone, MOJO, Billboard, NPR Music, BBC, The Guardian music desk.
  4. Primary documents: liner notes, session tapes, recording session books.
  5. Established Beatles and McCartney scholarship: Mark Lewisohn, Ian MacDonald, Howard Sounes, and other authoritative biographers.

We do not source from:

  • Unverified social media posts presented as fact.
  • Aggregator websites that don't link to original sources.
  • Anonymous online forums presented as authoritative.
  • Tabloid sources without independent corroboration.

Corrections policy

Errors of fact will be corrected promptly. Our practice:

  • Corrections appear at the bottom of the affected article, with the date of the correction and a description of what changed.
  • Significant corrections (those that materially affect the meaning of an article) are also listed on our corrections page.
  • The original incorrect text is not silently rewritten; the correction is added explicitly so the record is clear.
  • We do not unpublish articles to hide errors. Articles are corrected, not removed.

Conflicts of interest

If a Maccafan News writer has a personal or financial relationship with the subject of an article (for example, has been hired by a label or worked with an artist), this is disclosed in the article.

We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not write articles in exchange for free products, access, or other consideration.

Advertising

Maccafan News is supported by display advertising. Advertising is clearly labeled and visually distinct from editorial content. Advertisers do not see, review, or influence editorial content before publication.
